Hawai‘i Island ~ Legacy Forest at Umikoa

Step back in time and experience the beauty of a rare endemic Hawaiian forest.  Plant your seedling among existing trees that are centuries old, and help return this forest to its former glory. Experience serene moments with nature and perhaps spot an endangered bird like the 'Io  (Hawaiian Hawk) or Pueo (Hawaiian owl).  With less than 10% of these forests still in existence, guests will have an incredible opportunity to become a part of Hawai'i's rich culture and history by planting a permanent Legacy Tree and helping to save Hawaii.

Choose from a variety of Hawaiian Legacy seedlings like koa or sandalwood and plant your legacy. Connect with the land through a personal hiking tour--a rare opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Hawaiian royalty and see the real Hawaii.

Hiker's Tour (1 to 2 hours)

Starting at 9 a.m. or 1 p.m., enjoy freshly baked scones and coffee before embarking on your Legacy Tree planting and dedication.  On the guided tour of our forest, take a deeper look at Hawaiian species that exist nowhere else on earth.  Your tree will become a permanent addition to the Legacy Forest, which you can view online using our TreeTrackerTM.  This excursion may entail some walking or hiking with varying terrain but is conducted at a relaxed pace.  There are many places to stop, take pictures, and enjoy the natural beauty along the way.

Private Legacy Experience

Some occasions are best experienced privately.  As many of our tree plantings are memorials and dedications, we are happy to schedule a private experience for you and your group. Booking a private tour ensures that you have a personal, deeply meaningful planting experience. Please call (808) 509-TREE (808-509-8733) or email info@hawaiianlegacytours.com to schedule your private excursion.

A Field Trip To Remember

HLH believes that educating our young people about reforestation is one of the most important duties we have. We offer financial grant assistance to offset a portion of admission costs for any educational institution wanting their students to learn about our program and the native species our islands are home to. Please call (808) 509-TREE (808-509-8733) to schedule your field trip.
